WHEN SCIENCE MEETS FARMING, GREAT THINGS HAPPEN

The importance of Zinc

What is zinc required for?

  • Immune function
  • Fertility : sexual maturity, reproductive capacity, the onset of oestrus
  • Hoof health
  • Cell development (healthy bones and cartilage)
  • Udder health
  • Skin health
  • Wound healing

Clinical signs of zinc deficiency:

  • Reduced growth rates
  • Abnormal skeletal formation
  • Delayed sexual development
  • Dermatitis
  • Poor hoof health
  • Hair loss

Storage

There are no significant stores of body zinc, so the animal must rely on a daily supply to meet requirements.

Where dietary zinc is insufficient and a deficiency exists, a continuous source of zinc must be supplied, such as by a continuous-release bolus.
